Thunder and Lightning

Look!  I got mail the other day!  Wonder what it could be?

Oh, it's a Thundershirt, the best solution for Dog Anxiety.  Hu-mom must have ordered this for me since we've had a lot of very LOUD thunderstorms lately.  I freak out and roam around, going behind the couch in the living room and finally going underneath their bed.  She's heard a lot of recommendations for it from our Blogville friends and from others as well.

Mack's jealous, he wants one, too!  and it is Rugby Pink, my favorite color and medium is a perfect fit.  We'll keep our paws crossed that it works....

Here I am modeling it for you. It fits very snugly!

OK, fast forward to last evening.  Dark clouds started to form just as we were heading out for our evening walk with Foxy and Greta.  We decided to go ahead and start walking. We'd only gone about 4 blocks when droplets started to come down.  We turned around and cut our walk really short.  We were home less than 10 minutes when it started to boom and the rain came down hard.  (he he he - Hu-dad went on his own walk.  He got caught in the downpour and did not get home in time. He was soaking wet).

When the boomers started, on went the Thundershirt.  I still hid under the bed.  AND I did not come out until this morning.  Hu-dad had to coax me out. I've never slept under the bed all night.  I usually  come out once the thunder has stopped.  Hu-mom is hoping that I was so happy and relaxed in my Thundershirt, that I didn't want to come out all night.  We'll see.  More thunder storms are forecast for the 3rd and 4th of July.  I'm sure she'll put the Thundershirt on me when fireworks start on the 4th as well.

Does anyone else have the same kind of experience with their Thundershirt?

Oh, and Mack had his sentencing for destroying the Chapstick...he was given a reprieve and will receive no punishment this time!  He is on probation for 1 week!  Way to go, Mack!!  You always charm the judge.

Love,
Minnie

Minnie,
Sorry to hear that the thunder shirt may not have worked this time. Paws crossed for next time.

Payton
PS. Tell Mack I am happy that he's not in jail.

Hope your thunder shirt starts working! We're thinking about one for Cooper. He didn't used to be afraid of storms, but we think he's channeling our brother Jake from across the Rainbow Bridge. Jake hated thunder storms! It's kinda strange.

Glad to read that Mack got off light from the chapstick incident!

I barely notice thunder. Everybody in my house is like that.

But I have an agility friend that got one because she's nervous in big, noisy buildings. It works like a charm for her.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

How funny! I was literally just about to order one of these...it's currently in my shopping cart, but I was debating whether or not to press send. Man, I sure wish your review said it worked miracles! I do hope it starts to work for you, Minnie. (Klausie needs one for car rides...he has the worst car anxiety EVER.) Well, at least there's a money back guarantee, right?

We have a friend who wears a thunder shirt. It doesn't really help. He has a lot of anxiety. I hope yours works better

My cousin Jack the beagle wears a Thunder Shirt for his separation anxiety and it totally works! He doesn't have storm anxiety though so we can't say about that. BUT he is a big beagle (37 pounds!) and the store where he got it fit him in a SMALL! It's supposed to be SUPER tight. So maybe yours is too big?

We love the pink though!!!

Later!

Lilac sleeps pretty hard in our Thundershirt, too! She sleeps a lot, though, so maybe we're not the best ones to ask. It seems to help her keep from panting and pacing!

Xander is terrified of thunder. The Thundershirt doesn't cure his fear, but it definitely seems to help. Good luck with Minnie!!

Hi Minnie,

Hope your new spiffy Thundershirt works on the 3rd & 4th. You can always come to Austin, the fireworks are cancelled this year due to the drought.

Hugs,
Suki

I hope it works the next time - you sure look cute! Tell Mack to be good or that 1 week probation might be extended or revoked then he might have to do time in the slammer! Hugs, Ellen

The trick with the thunder shirt is getting it on before the storm hits. Maybe an hour or so before if you can anticipate the storm. We also use Rescue Remedy, you can find it at health food stores and it's all natural. That really seems to help. Our dog is a Puppy Mill rescue and freaks out all the time and both of these really seem to help her out.
Hope this helps.

She looks so cute! I have a friend with a dog (Biscuit!) that has a storm cape too!

We've tried Rescue Remedy and for us it helps take the edge off, but doesn't Xanax us out. But anything can help. Even if Minnie didn't act normally, not pacing and crying is an improvement, right?
Hope this weekend goes smoothly for all of you.

We get really bad thunderstorms here in Florida too! We run and hide behind the couch! Wish they made stuff like this for us kitties too! Mac I bet the chap stick was tasty! Glad you were pardoned!! Our Mommy is on her third big hair clip in a month, we keep hiding them and she keeps buying them! It is a really fun game!!! Mommy doesn't seem to be having as much fun playing as we do though. Have a great 4th of July!!!
